Your experience begins at the Ranch
Before setting off, you will meet the horse that will carry you on the ride. Our guides will show you how to approach your horse, how to sit in the saddle and how to use the simple commands of western riding.
Before heading out, we will also do a practice round, so you can get used to your horse. No riding experience is needed.
On horseback along the west coast of Sant'Antioco
Leaving the Ranch behind, we slowly make our way into the landscape of the island’s west coast. Mediterranean scrub, wind-sculpted rocks, cliffs and sea views will be with you all the way.
Depending on the route, we may pass some of the most distinctive spots in this part of Sant’Antioco, such as Poggio di Mezzaluna, the Totem and the Arco dei Baci (the Kissing Arch), crossing land that is also rich in archaeological remains.
We are not after speed. Riding at a walk lets you take in the landscape, the horse and the land at a completely different pace.
Some places you can visit. Others are worth experiencing slowly.
From Carolina Ranch we set off on horseback to explore the west coast of Sant’Antioco, through Mediterranean scrub, cliffs and sweeping sea views.
Before confirming, we prefer to talk to you directly, find out who is in your group and give you all the information you need.
Why small groups
For us, it is not about taking as many people out as possible. We would rather ride with just a few and look after them properly.
That is why we have set a maximum of 6 riders for our horseback rides. It lets us give more attention to each person, keep the group close together and enjoy the experience in a more relaxed way.
Our horses and western riding
At Carolina Ranch we mainly ride Quarter Horses with a western saddle. Western riding comes from a tradition in which horse and rider spent many hours together, and it favours simple commands and a balanced relationship with the animal.
The western saddle also gives you a stable, comfortable seat. Before setting off, we will help you get to know your horse and understand how to communicate with it.
Photos are included
During the experience we will take photos to capture some of the best moments of the ride. At the end you will receive your souvenir photos in digital format, included in the price.
Never ridden a horse before?
Many of the people who join our rides are doing it for the first time. Before setting off we will explain everything you need, do a practice round at the Ranch and stay with you throughout the ride.
If you have any doubts, talk to us before confirming: we would rather work out together whether this is the right experience for you.

Long trousers and closed shoes; hiking boots or riding boots are ideal.
Get in touch before booking: we can suggest the Ranch activities best suited to their age and to your family.
These may be changed by our staff depending on the weather, ground conditions, the horses or for safety reasons.

Every person is different, and so is every group. That is why, before confirming a ride, we like to know a little about you: how many of you there are, your ages, whether you have ridden before and when you would like to come to the Ranch.
That way we can check availability and give you all the information you need.
