The Day of the Solar Eclipse and the Shooting Stars

Organised in collaboration with the L’Unione Sarda Planetarium, this evening brings together a solar eclipse and shooting stars in a unique setting, beneath the crystal-clear skies of the island of Sant’Antioco.  Our journey through time begins with the partial solar eclipse, the most significant since 1999. An hour before sunset all eyes will be on our star as the Moon begins to eclipse it. Just before the Sun disappears below the horizon, we will watch the eclipse over the sea: a truly unique sight.

Once night has fallen, astrophysicist Manuel Floris will point a powerful green laser at the sky and tell the stories of the constellations and their ancient myths, on a journey through time that reveals the deep bond between humankind and the Universe.

As darkness settles, we will try to spot the faint streaks of light of the most famous shooting stars, the Perseids: fragments of ice left behind by a comet. And after 22:00 two powerful telescopes will be turned towards nebulae and star clusters

The evening programme

• Arrival at the Ranch and check-in
• Watching the Solar Eclipse with astrophysicist Manuel Floris
• Dinner: pizza from Renzo&Rita pizzeria, or a Cantina Giba wine tasting + a box of traditional Sardinian produce from Ristorante Luna nel Pozzo (cured sausage, semi-mature cheese, fresh cheese, olives, prosciutto crudo, bread)
• Dinner will be accompanied by a live music performance from maestro Federico Dessì
• We will end the evening by stargazing under the night sky
