A Night with the Milky Way

PLEASE NOTE: the astronomers will present the evening in Italian only

Organised in collaboration with the L’Unione Sarda Planetarium, this evening brings together the Sun, the stars and the Milky Way in a unique setting, beneath the crystal-clear skies of the island of Sant’Antioco.  Our journey through time begins at the Giants’ Tomb (Tomba dei Giganti) of Niu de su Crobu, where we will watch the sun go down and try to catch the rare “green flash”, the green glow the Sun leaves behind just before it slips below the horizon. Meanwhile, Lisa Mura of Aguadora Experience will carry us  into a world of myths and legends, telling the history and traditions of the places we visit

Once night has fallen, astrophysicist Manuel Floris will point a powerful green laser at the sky and tell the stories of the constellations and their ancient myths, on a journey through time that reveals the deep bond between humankind and the Universe.

As darkness settles, you can admire the beauty of the Milky Way from one of the darkest skies in Italy. And after 22:00 two powerful telescopes will be turned towards star clusters, nebulae and double stars, on an incredible journey through space and time.

The evening programme

• Arrival at the Ranch and check-in
• Short visit to the Ranch animals
• 1 km walk to the Giants’ Tomb
• Guided visit with astrophysicist Manuel Floris and tourist guide Lisa Mura of Aguadora Experience
• Live music
• 1 km walk back to the Ranch
• Dinner: pizza from Renzo&Rita pizzeria, or a Cantina Giba wine tasting + a box of traditional Sardinian produce from Ristorante Luna nel Pozzo (cured sausage, semi-mature cheese, fresh cheese, olives, prosciutto crudo, bread)
• Live music from maestro Federico Dessì
• Stargazing under the night sky with astrophysicist Manuel Floris
